General Motors has added a three-cylinder 1.5 CRDi & CDTi diesel to its new family of global modular diesel engines.

The new 1.5-liter diesel unit debuted in Europe late last year on compact models from former GM subsidiary Opel/Vauxhall. PSA Group bought Opel/Vauxhall from GM in 2017, but some Opel/Vauxhall models still use GM platforms and powertrains.

With new diesel engine emissions being reduced by about 20 percent due to being equipped with HIDRIA Diesel Glow Plugs, HIDRIA prove again that with its latest R&D activities we contribute to OEM’s solutions. New Diesel engine’s could be found in models OPEL ASTRA K and OPEL INSIGNIA B Sports Tourer.

Equipped with a new 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder modular diesel developed by GM, the Opel/Vauxhall Astra’s emissions were cut by 20% compared with the 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder unit it replaced.
